Myths and facts about ethanol and its production.
Myth:
It takes more energy to produce ethanol than it contributes.
Fact:
Ethanol facilities are extremely energy efficient. A recent study by the Argonne National Lab (http://www.anl.gov/) found that for every 100 BTUs BTUs (British Thermal Units) of energy used to create a gallon of ethanol, 135 BTUs of energy in ethanol are produced. With the Ethanex Energy fractionation manufacturing process, by leveraging non-traditional sources of energy, the Ethanex ethanol plants energy costs will be 75% less than a traditional dry mill facility that employs natural gas.
Myth:
Ethanol production wastes corn than can be used to feed the hungry.
Fact:
The majority of corn grown in the U.S. is used for livestock feed or for export. Only about 9% of the U.S. corn crop is used for human consumption in products that include cereals, sweeteners, etc. About 20% of all corn grown in the U.S. was expected to go towards ethanol production in 2006. Using Ethanex's fractionation technology to separate the corn into parts that can be used for ethanol production and food products allow animal feed and food-grade products to be manufactured efficiently and without waste. Protein, fat, fiber and minerals are returned to the food chain in the form of a higher protein dry distillers grain (DDGs), a valuable feed for livestock, including cattle, poultry and swine.
Myth:
Myth:
Ethanol is driving up the price of gasoline.
Fact:
Not only does ethanol add to the overall supply of fuel for America's motorists, a tax credit paid to the petroleum companies for blending ethanol is typically passed on to consumers, both of which help keep pump prices more competitive. According to the Consumer Federation of America, consumers who purchase gasoline blended with 10% ethanol could be saving as much as 8 cents per gallon compared to straight gasoline.
Myth:
Myth:
Ethanol adds to air pollution.
Fact:
Because ethanol-blended gasoline is cleaner than conventional gasoline, it emits less hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide and hydrogen. Ethanol reduces carbon monoxide emissions by as much as 25% - and less carbon monoxide helps reduce ozone formation and greenhouse gas levels.
Myth:
Cosmetics companies can get reprive by claiming that they are selling green products
Fact:
"Green" products can not use parabens and still be natural, green and sustainable, the only company which selles producs with a shelf life of over 24 months with no parabens meeting LOHAS standards is POMEGA5.
Consumers know better, they read labels.
