Omega 5 botanical oil made from pomegranate seeds may prevent diabetes

Greentech news: Pomegranate seed oil may prevent diabetes

Consuming oil from pomegranate seeds may prevent the development of diabetes, suggest results from a study with mice fed a high-fat diet.

Pomegranate seed oil, rich in conjugate linolenic acid, was found to change weight gain, reduce body weight, and improve insulin sensitivity in mice, “suggesting that risk of developing type 2 diabetes may have been reduced”, says a paper published in the British Journal of Nutrition.
While the juice and pulp of pomegranates have received considerable attention, particularly for their potential heart health benefits, as well as benefiting joint health and as a potential prevention of prostate cancer, the seeds have been largely ignored.

The source of the fruit and juice’s benefits is the antioxidant content, particularly ellagitannin compounds like punicalagins and punicalins, which accounts for about half of the fruit's antioxidant ability.

However, oil from the fruit’s seeds has minimal antioxidant content, but it is a rich source of 9-cis, 11-trans conjugate linolenic acid. This is a different compound to the one currently on the market - CLA or conjugated linoleic acid.

Study details

Led by Brian McFarlin from the University of Houston, the researchers divided 60 male mice into three equal groups. The first group consumed a high-fat diet, the second group consumed the same high-fat diet but was supplemented with the pomegranate seed oil (61.8 mg per day, POM Wonderful), and the third group consumed a normal diet.

At the end of the study, the mice fed the high-fat diet and supplemented with the pomegranate seed oil gained about 10 grams less than the high-fat only group. Furthermore, insulin sensitivity increased, while leptin decreased and adiponectin increased. “Leptin and adiponectin are closely related to body weight and body composition,” they explained.
However, the researchers did not note any heart health benefits, in terms of reducing the risk for cardiovascular disease. “Despite reduction in weight gain and type 2 diabetes risk, markers for CVD were not altered,” they said.

“It is reasonable to speculate that CVD risk was not altered because POMo lacks the antioxidant properties of pomegranate fruit/juice or was not used at a high enough dose,” they said.
Dr McFarlin and his co-workers stated that future studies should evaluate the potential effects and elucidate the underlying mechanisms of the health benefits of consuming the oil during a period of weight gain.

Pomega5 responds to our confused readers – Omega 5 oil demystified

SCENARIO: everybody and her sister can write an article about skin care and how pomega5 products truly exceed the performance of other green lines, but someone has got to make a sale, and sometimes you are in that happy place where you’ve gotten into the customer attention by she is not yet ready to purchase your product.
As you work with your customer contact, it gradually dawns on you that she doesn’t have the authority to make a final decision. The real decision-makers are somewhere else up the management chain but your contact seems reluctant to introduce you upwards. How do you cope?

Here’s a five step process:

· STEP #1: Understand the psychology. Assuming that your contact is not actually delusional about her decision-making power (don’t laugh; it happens), your contact probably has cold feet about bringing the idea to the bigwig’s attention. Unlike you, she is not trained to overcome the fear of selling new brands and, if she screws up, she can’t just move on to the next account. She’s got to live with the results
· STEP #2: Take a dose of reality. If your sales activity remains at this level, and with this person, it may add days, weeks and even months to your sales cycle. And it will waste time that you could be spending developing other opportunities. What’s more, there’s a good chance that the opportunity could drag on and on and then end in a “no decision” simply because a decision maker isn’t involved. So you MUST take action.
· STEP #3: Research the power structure. Find out the name(s) of the real decision-makers. It probably won’t help just to ask outright, because your contact is pretending, remember? So ask indirect questions like: “how have offerings like this been purchased in the past?” or “who else in the management influences your final decision?” Worse case, develop some more contacts and ask around.
· STEP #4: Request appropriate access. If you don’t ask, you don’t get. Say something like: “We’ve made a lot of good progress here we are at the point of this process we need to speak to John Smith, the senior VP. This is a something that will help us both, so shall we do that meeting together or shall I contact her myself?” Note that you’re giving a choice, but that each choice moves the sale forward.
· STEP #5: Determine what’s missing. If the contact refuses either choice — she won’t sponsor you and tells you not to talk to the decision maker — you have one (1) fallback position. Say something like: “I apologize for not articulating the situation very well. We’re working together on a deal for x amount of money and made a good start. What needs to happen before we get John Smith involved?” Listen carefully to the answer.
BINGO

Hope this helps in closing a sale of POMEGA5 products

Should I be buying pomega5 ultra green skin care products now?

In good times: Confidence swells.

We all know what happens when the economy hums: A lot of what businesspeople try works. AIG discovers a profitable market in insuring dicey securities. General Motors sells lots of gas-guzzling sport utility vehicles. Innovation and entrepreneurialism flourish because the odds of success rise. And confidence climbs higher — often, as we can now see so clearly, dangerously high. “There’s evidence that in good times, suddenly everyone thinks that they’re better than everyone else,” says Don Moore, an associate professor of organizational behavior and theory at Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business. “On average, that’s just not true.”

Our problem? We can’t easily view our achievements with anything approaching objectivity. In a study on confidence published last year, Moore gave participants 18 computer-based trivia quizzes and then asked them how well they did. Turns out, most were horrible at assessing their performances — about 90 percent of the subjects guessed wrong about how they did.

Hubris and delusion, as you might imagine, are a dangerous combination. When things are going gangbusters, the truth is we get too full of ourselves. Our confidence has us looking at our businesses through rose-colored lenses.

In stable times: Overconfidence dictates.
When business is OK but unspectacular, we get conservative. We lean on practices that served us well during the earlier boom. Our confidence lies in the fact that we know what works, and we stick with it.
But that confidence can lead us astray again, as we adopt the false belief that experience can replace effort. Veteran cops do this: Moore cites well-known research in which seasoned policemen frequently erred in determining whether or not suspects were telling the truth. The related study, titled “Who Can Catch a Liar,” proves that few folks really can. Experience, it turns out, counts for little. “If I teach the same class for 10 years and start failing to prepare, then my performance suffers,” Moore says. “You have to find that sweet spot: sufficient poise to work with what you’ve already got, and sufficient anxiety to invest time and energy into your work.”
In downturns: Confidence evaporates.
Here’s where we are now. The economy has tanked. People are paying off mortgages worth far more than their homes; folks are out of work. Those still on the job, including company management, walk around office hallways with their heads down, in part because they fear becoming the next casualty.
Again, Moore says that confidence — really, the lack thereof — is misleading, slightly out of whack with reality. Yes, the national unemployment rate is a sobering 8.5 percent, but that means the employment rate is still 91.5 percent. Real estate is cheap, certainly compared with a few years ago, when those looking for homes bemoaned the sky-high prices. Weaker businesses are ripe for acquisition.
You have to look at the proverbial glass as half-full. “These days, I bet there are a lot of managers imagining that they’re not doing well, and that others are doing better,” says Moore. “On average? That’s untrue.”
Confidence experts say that in these stressful times, leaders need to be level-headed and courageous. Be brutally honest with yourself and others, and get comfortable with making changes and even going against the grain. Marriott, for instance, recently took what could be viewed as a leap of faith when it agreed to buy West Virginia’s iconic and bankrupt Greenbrier resort. In the long run, the hotel’s estimated $130 million price tag could very well represent a bargain. “This is a time to do things even if you don’t want to do them,” says Marina Gorbis, who runs the Institute for the Future, a Silicon Valley think tank. “This is a time for heroic actions.”

The demand for 45 plus old models drives up the sales of POMEGA5 products

Demand for older models grows

Until recently, a fashion model and a carton of skim milk had a lot in common -- not enough fat and a short shelf life. The average model's career typically expired at the age of 25. And, really, did anyone cry over such gorgeous spoiled milk?

But a funny thing happened on the way to the model retirement home. Laugh lines became commodities.

"The market for older models has exploded," says Ginni Conquest, co-director of the sophisticated women's division at Wilhelmina Models in New York. (Models who are 25 and older are often referred to as "classic" or "sophisticated.") "It's our fastest-growing area, and it's a first for the industry."

Companies didn't suddenly become smitten with stretch marks. The trend is driven by the $2 trillion spending power of baby boomers -- born between 1946 and 1964 -- who make up 26 percent of the population. After all, what middle-aged woman wants to buy moisturizer from a model who's too young to order a martini?

Or a cashmere cardigan from a coed? In September, J.Crew will introduce an online section within its Web catalog that features 58-year-old Los Angeles model Pia Gronning. The sundresses will be the same, but the styling will be more age-appropriate and sophisticated.

"We kept hearing women say, I'm not 25. I can't wear your clothes,' " says the preppy retailer's creative director, Jenna Lyons. "We did it for the women who wanted to see someone they relate to."

J.Crew's mature model, a Danish stunner with a 27-inch waist, returned to modeling full time four years ago with L.A. Models as her booking agency. She had been working as a successful interior designer, collaborating with Julia Louis-Dreyfus and other notables.

"I was seeing girls that I used to work with, and so I got back into it," says Gronning, who was discovered by Eileen Ford in 1974. "I am much more relaxed about it now, and I am doing amazingly well."

Using models with some existential mileage makes sense for a few reasons. Baby boomers and thirtysomething Gen Xers see the best physical examples of their peers and glean hope that they, too, can age as well. They also covet the good life experiences that often come with good looks.

"The aspiration in these ads has shifted to having a full, rich life. Open up any Vogue and you'll see models over 35," says John Caplan, president of Ford Models. "In the Rolex ad, you have Carmen Dell'Orefice, and she's in her 70s."

Of course, it helps to have a fulfilled life and exquisite bone structure too. This fall, you won't be able to flip a dozen ad pages in a fashion magazine without glimpsing a 35-plus supermodel. Linda Evangelista, 42, pouts for Prada, while 38-year-old Claudia Schiffer smirks for Chanel and Ferragamo. Christy Turlington, 39, models for Escada. Naomi Campbell, 38, just replaced the 34-year-old Kate Moss as the face of Yves Saint Laurent's fall print ads.

Could America's next top model be addicted to multivitamins? TV Land sure hopes so. Earlier this month, the cable network -- along with Wilhelmina Models as a partner -- debuted "She's Got the Look," a search for a 35-plus supermodel. Host Kim Alexis, 47, who graced 500 magazine covers in the 80s, plays the ax model with the not-so-catchy dismissal: "You're off the board."

"The expression well-preserved' has become a compliment," Alexis says. "And unlike the 20-year-old girls on America's Next Top Model,' these women are more well-rounded and confident."
Perhaps. But that doesn't mean that they don't bicker like hungry chinchillas and bemoan their thighs and midriffs. Still, Keith Cox, TV Land exec and the show's creator, thinks the winner will have a better shot at landing campaigns than a dewy twentysomething model: "It's a different market, and it's less competitive," he says.

Still, this trend that appears to be one giant leap for modelkind doesn't apply to the runway -- which is still strictly for kittens.

"If I submitted a 45-year-old model for a runway show, the designer would laugh at me," says Crista Klayman, director of runway at L.A. Models. "They still want the 18-year-old."

In other words, got milk?

Take control of your life and use POMEGA5 natural skin care

Is your life a mess? It’s time to take control!

Most of us have filled our minds with a myriad of concerns that take up space and energy that you could be spending on something far better for your soul.

Deal with things that are weighing you down

They say that an unfinished task is one of the most exhausting things there is, because the longer you put it off the more it drains you of energy. Rather tackle those tasks and enjoy the satisfaction that comes with it. The same applies to relationships that have gone sour. If you have had a fall out with someone and are no longer on speaking terms, but you’d really like to be, just brave it and try to clear the air. Life’s too short; just do it and you’ll feel a million times lighter afterwards.

Declutter your work space and your home

Sounds like work, doesn’t it? But it’s well worth the effort because clearing out the spaces around you can be so uplifting. Feng Shui fans will tell you that the items around you store the energy of things that have happened in the past, and by having a clear out you can make a fresh start. Whatever your beliefs maybe, having a good clean out will help you clear your head. Be pretty ruthless with what you’re going to get rid of, and in South Africa there is always someone who can use what you no longer need. Take anything worthwhile to a charity and give yourself some brownie points.

Learn to say no

Many of us languish under the belief that we have to say yes to be nice. What often happens is that life gets busier and busier and you are left with no time to treat yourself, nourish your soul and reboot your body. If something will put you in a time crunch and under pressure, politely say no and try to keep your life simple. If your lifestyle is simple your thoughts will be too.

Give your head a break

Is your head crammed with things you have to remember to do and appointments you mustn’t forget. Write them down in a diary or on a calendar and ease up the space on your mental hard-drive.

Don’t worry, be happy

Worrying is exhausting - and we so often worry about things that don’t ever actually come to pass. This makes worrying pretty pointless. It also makes you miss out on the good moments in the present. So stop worrying about the things you can’t control and enjoy your life today.

Skin problems of pregnant women

Skin care company targets expectant mothers
Consult your physician on any skin care line

A range of skin care products designed specifically for pregnant women illustrates the increasing specialisation within the personal care market.

Although the growth of the organic and natural trend has seen a number of 'chemical free' ranges targeted towards this consumer group, products designed specifically to treat skin problems related to pregnancy are relatively rare.
Specific skin care problems of pregnant women
The US based company, offers a range of products that are 'designed to treat the problems related to the physiological and hormonal changes experienced by women during pregnancy'.
The range has been developed by an American obstetrician and includes a face and body cream and a facial scrub designed for the oily and blemished skin often experienced during early pregnancy, as well as a stretch mark cream and nipple gel.
The face and body cream contains tea tree oil for its antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory activity, whilst the facial scrub is designed for use on oily and blemished skin promising to leave skin feeling clean, soft and refreshed.
Furthermore, the stretch mark cream is scent free in order to be more tolerable to pregnant women, who often have a more sensitive sense of smell.

In addition to designing the products for the specific skin requirements of pregnant women, the company also claim to have extensively researched the ingredients in order to make sure they pose no health risk. 'All the ingredients have been carefully chosen to ensure the safety of the developing fetus,' according to the company.
Products free from toxic chemicals for expectant mothers
Products claiming to be free of toxic chemicals are gaining ground within the industry as a whole and a number of natural product marketing campaigns have targeted expectant mothers by highlighting the damage such products may do to the unborn fetus.
In addition, a recent high profile study linked the use of baby care products to the presence of 'gender bending' chemicals phthalates, although the industry body the Personal Care Products Council refuted the validity of the study.Despite much of the industry claiming this is pure scaremongering and maintaining there is no link between chemicals used in cosmetic products and health problems, it cannot be denied that an increasing number of concerned consumers are looking to natural and organic cosmetics to provide a 'safe alternative'.

Man Arrested 53 Times for Groping Women on New York Subway

NEW YORK — About two weeks after he was released from prison, Freddie Johnson boarded a crowded subway train during morning rush hour in Manhattan, squeezed in behind a woman and ground his pelvis into her backside, authorities said.

It is a fairly common crime on subways in New York. But this was no common criminal.
Johnson has been arrested a staggering 53 times — the majority for groping women on the subway, police and prosecutors said.

In the latest incident, Johnson was being followed by plainclothes officers who recognized him from police photos, authorities said. He was charged with persistent sexual abuse, and if convicted this time, he could be sent away for life. The district attorney's office branded him a "recidivist transit grinder" at a court hearing earlier this week.
But the fact that Johnson was roaming the subways in the first place has raised questions about how the state deals with the problem of repeat sex offenders. His case even drew the scorn of a newspaper editorial this week that labeled Johnson the "Subway Rat."
His attorney, Afsi Khot, had no comment on the case, as is practice with Legal Aid attorneys.
/**/

Johnson, a registered sex offender, has been convicted at least twice of persistent sexual abuse within the last decade, prosecutors said. And he has a lengthy rap sheet, with 30 arrests for sex abuse, 13 for jostling and two for grand larceny, police said.

He was released from prison on March 25 after serving four years for persistent sexual abuse, according to correctional records. The state attorney general's office had argued that the 49-year-old should be confined under the state's civil commitment law for sex offenders, which went into effect last year, because he was at risk for repeat offenses.

But a Manhattan Supreme Court Judge disagreed and instead placed Johnson on strict court-ordered supervision and electronic monitoring.

Whether he should have been confined speaks to a larger issue about what authorities should do with criminals who are habitual offenders, but aren't violent.

Around half of all so-called exhibitionists like Johnson are repeat offenders, experts say. Exhibitionists have the highest rate of re-offense of all sex crimes, but there isn't much crossover into more egregious acts like rape or assault, said Elizabeth Jeglic, a professor of treatment and rehabilitation of offenders at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

"Exhibitionism is disturbing, but in the larger scheme you want to commit the people who are grabbing kids off the street, or the rapist in Central Park," Jeglic said.

The goal of the Sex Offender Management and Treatment Act that went into effect last April is to protect society by keeping the most dangerous sex offenders off the streets and provide long-term treatment to ensure they don't repeat their crimes. To qualify, a criminal must have a "mental abnormality," and be "predisposed" to repeat the offense, prosecutors said.

Omega 5 oil skin care takes the fear away from those who are concerned about the health of their skin

Omega 5 oil soft gel caps by POMEGA5
Better fit than ugly!

Fear of looking unattractive is a stronger motivator to get fit than hope for those worrying about their bodies, says a study.
Want to lose weight, but a strong motivation is missing? Then, why don’t you try fear as suggested by a study, conducted by Professor Brett Martin, of the University of Bath’s School of Management, and Dr Rana Sobh of Qatar University.
In the study, half of 281 male and female undergraduates were asked to imagine a physically unattractive version of themselves they feared they might turn into. Then, they asked the participants to either imagine a scenario in which they dramatically failed to keep to a fitness programme or one in which they dramatically succeeded.
The analysis of the study showed that those who had been asked to think about a dramatic failure to keep to the programme were motivated to keep on training because they were fearful of not looking good.
Those who were asked to imagine they were succeeding in getting fit became less motivated to continue at the gym because they no longer had this fear of not looking good. The study reveals that fear of failure motivates people more than gaining some success, which demotivates them. This fear of failure is particularly strong when people feel they can already see signs of the feared self they are striving to avoid.
The findings revealed why marketing works or doesn’t works for some products like gyms to get a better body or cosmetics to reduce wrinkles.

“How consumers see themselves in the future has a strong effect on how motivated they are to keep using a product or service,” said Martin. “When people dwell on a negative future, fear motivates them, yet as they move away from their feared state - a flabby body, or a wrinkled skin - they become less motivated.
“At that point, marketers should take advantage of another insight of our study - that of motivating people with a more positive outlook,” Martin added. Martin found that among those who were asked to think positively about their bodies, the other half of the 281 surveyed, being successful in keeping to the fitness programme made them even keener to keep going to the gym. Failing to keep to the programme demotivated them.
“Once someone moves away from their ‘feared self’ - in this case an unattractive body - because they are successful in the gym, they lose motivation, so highlighting thoughts of being unattractive is unlikely to work,” said Martin.
The researchers found that 85 per cent of those who wanted to avoid a feared unattractive self responded to a scenario where they were failing in the gym by wanting to press on, compared with 65 per cent who were succeeding in the gym who were motivated to continue. They found that 91 per cent of those thinking positively about their bodies responded to a scenario where they were succeeding in the gym by wanting to press on, compared with just 57 per cent of people who were failing in the gym and wanted to go on.

You can practically set your watch by it. Seems like every couple of weeks, some once-powerful, now-embattled politician has gotten himself into a royal scandal. And when it involves sex, it's even more salacious.
Most of us can't fathom how any man would be willing to risk giving up a perfectly good political gig, let alone his marriage, family, reputation, etc., for a romp with a hooker.
So why do men in high-power positions take such a chance?
When I first heard about the Eliot Spitzer scandal, I immediately wondered what's not going on in Spitzer's marital bed. After all, when your average married man goes to a prostitute, it's often because he's sexually dissatisfied or sexually deviant. ... But Gov. Spitzer is no ordinary man.
Regarded as an egomaniac by many, this guy has been known to shake things up, to challenge the status quo and to follow a bolder vision. Interestingly enough, all of these are indicators of a man with lowered inhibitions.
Why does that matter?
Research shows that people consumed with power experience an adrenaline rush. This helps to explain why some people are willing to push the envelope — and why someone like Spitzer may have been unable to control himself.
Complicating matters even more is the fact that people with power are:
— Overly optimistic;
— Likelier to take risks;
— More likely to pursue their own personal needs for satisfaction.

Are you heavy or healthy -- and can Omega 5 oil help?

What is your (BMR) Basic Metabolic Rate.

Well in a nutshell this figure represents your resting energy needs in order to maintain life keep vital organ function and maintain life as a whole. Why is this important you may ask, well as you probably notice over the years your eating habits tend to remain a bit consistent as in you don’t tend to consciously think about what your eating.

I’m not saying you don’t think about how or what your eating but just eat regardless of the content of your food or eat what you have always eaten as in quantity also, how does this become a problem well over the years our weight can tend to creep up on us and we start thinking how come I am putting on weight, nothings changed much still eating the same foods.

So why the weight gain well as we get older our metabolic rate changes and slows down so eat the same foods in the same quantity and you’ll gain weight.

So what you need to know is what your basic metabolic rate is for your age then once you have this information you will know what your calorie intake should be for the amount of your doing and how much deficit you need in order to loose of which I am about to give a example.

So if I want to keep losing or so the theory goes I go to this site BMR calculator and input my details this is to give you a example so here is my result 2078

So then what you need to do is go to the calorie calculation page which is based on the Harris Benedict formula so I use the x 1.55 figure so therefore 2078 x 1.55=3220 calories so now you subtract 500 from that total and in my case it is 2720 and that will account for the 500 calorie deficit in order to lose one pound of fat.

So it’s quite plain to see if you go less than the figure quoted then you will stop loss and above it will gain .
Pomegranate seed oil can help maintain your BMR.

Skin care from the inside

By Lenore S. Greenstein

Is it possible to eat your way to smoother, healthier skin? According to the latest research, changing your diet can help you look younger. New studies have shown that two nutrients, namely vitamin C and a fat called omega-6 linoleic acid, helped to prevent those inevitable wrinkles and thinning of the skin that comes with age.
A recent study of more than 4,000 women between the ages of 40 and 74, reported in "The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition," showed that women who ate more foods rich in vitamin C were less likely to have wrinkles, as well as higher intakes of omega-6 linoleic acid were associated with less dryness and atrophy of the skin.

On the minus side, an increase in certain kinds of fats and carbohydrates also increased the likelihood of aging skin.

Skin aging was defined as a wrinkled appearance or dryness as a result of aging and skin thinning or atrophy.

Researchers claimed that this is the first skin-aging study to concentrate on daily intake of nutrients from food, rather than supplements. Dermatologists even did clinical examinations of the skin to gauge the appearance of the women's skin.

Women who reported lower intakes of vitamin C in their diets were found to have the highest incidences of wrinkled and dry skin.

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that can boost your immune system and has also been shown to play a role in the synthesis of collagen, a protein that helps retain the skin's elasticity.

Some of the best sources of vitamin C are citrus fruits, like oranges and grapefruits, strawberries, red bell peppers, broccoli, tomatoes, papaya, guava and kiwi.

Eating more linoleic acid, the omega-6 fatty acid found in abundance in nuts, whole grains, vegetable oils such as safflower, sunflower corn and soybean, pumpkin seeds, wheat germ, eggs, and poultry, also proved to be associated with more youthful skin.
And finally, do not forget Omega 5 oil from the seeds of pomegranates which for centuries has been known to have health benefits.

This type of fat is very common in the American diet, especially since corn oil is found in a wide variety of foods, so it may not be necessary to increase the amount you are consuming unless you are on a low-fat dietary regimen.

The biggest offenders of unhealthy skin are foods high in saturated fats such as red meat, full-fat dairy products, butter, lard, dark-meat poultry and oils that are used in fried foods, fast food, desserts and creamy sauces.

Excessive fat and trans-fats are not healthy for your heart so substituting olive oil and omega-3 rich fats in fatty fish, walnuts and flaxseed will achieve an all-around improvement in your nutrition lifestyle.

While a diet high in carbohydrates was shown to increase the aging of the skin, all carbohydrates are not bad for you. It is beneficial to increase the amount of fruits and vegetables you eat every day, while reducing the amount of processed carbs such as white breads, pastas, rice and sugar-filled foods like cookies, cakes and candy.

You may also find a benefit from the use of certain foods in skin products such as masques, moisturizers, scrubs and cleansers. Oatmeal, avocado and yogurt are just a few of the ingredients that are popular in commercial as well as homemade scrubs and masques.

Recommendations for a healthier-looking skin would not be complete without a final word to:
A) Stay hydrated (especially in the warm weather in Southwest Florida) by drinking enough water;
B) Moisturize your skin to keep it smooth and avoid dryness;
C) Wear sunscreen to avoid the damaging ultraviolet rays that can hurt your skin and cause pre-mature aging.

"Read my lips" -- there are no parabens in the POMEGA5 natural skin care line containing Omega 5 oil

Tom Krestkin about parabens
No more parabens?
Long shelf life?
The National Organic Program prohibits chemical preservatives in products that are labeled "organic." So what are chemical preservatives such as methyl, propyl, butyl and ethyl parabens doing in personal care products labeled "organic?"

There are many delightful organic foods that contain no preservatives. Read the labels on your organic honey, maple syrup, vinegar, olive oil, sugar, raisins, peanut butter and wine. These foods are considered by the FDA to be "self-preserving" and contain no preservatives. This means that, because of certain inherent qualities, these foods are naturally stable and not overly susceptible to contamination from bacteria.

Organic herbal medicinal tinctures made from high quality organic herbs and organic grain alcohol are shelf-stable for around two to three years. True castile soap, liquid or bars, has an excellent shelf-life of up to eighteen months or longer and requires no preservatives. Wouldn´t you prefer body care products that are fresh (like the food you eat) rather than several years old?

A self-preserved 100% organic moisturizing body oil made from organic sunflower oil, organic cocoa butter, organic coconut oil, organic peppermint oil and organic spearmint oil can have a shelf-life of up to 18 months.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in their report "Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products in the Environment: Agents of Subtle Change?" reported that the chemical preservatives called parabens—methyl, propyl, butyl and ethyl (alkyl-p-hydroxybenzoates)—displayed estrogenic activity in several tests. This means that these chemicals mimic your body´s own hormones and can have endocrine-disrupting action when they are rubbed into your body or washed down the drain into your drinking water. These disruptors interfere with your body´s endocrine system: your hypothalamus, your ovaries, your thyroid—virtually every system in your body. The EPA also stated that "continual introduction of these benzoates (parabens) into sewage treatment systems and directly to recreational waters from the skin leads to the question of risk to aquatic organisms." Scientists in Europe found other endocrine-disrupting body care chemicals in the bodies of fish that humans are eating, and in human breast milk.

Dr. Elizabeth Smith has written that "It is a known medical fact that estrogen stimulates breast cancer" and that "anything absorbed through the skin may be as high as 10 times the concentration of an oral dose." (Think about how nicotine and birth control/hormone patches work—the chemicals are absorbed through the skin!) She also reported that, in one study, a paraben was injected under the skin and was found to have an "estrogenic response on uterine tissues." Scientists observing these harmful effects on the uterus remarked that "it is suggested that the safety in use of these chemicals should be reassessed."

Endocrine disruptors are transported into the body, daily, via absorption through the skin and hair follicles when using personal care products. Now that we know that we absorb toxins through our skin, isn´t it important that body care products that claim to be organic should be as pure as the organic foods that we eat?

What Are Parabens And Why Should You Avoid Them.
You may have heard about how you should avoid parabens in the products you buy, but you might be wondering why you should do so. After doing a bunch of research a couple of years ago, my wife and I decided to no longer purchase any products that have parabens in them. First, let’s look at where you might find parabens and what products they are normally in.Parabens can be found in shampoos, commercial moisturizers, shaving gels, cleansing gels, personal lubricants, topical pharmaceuticals and toothpaste. They are also used as food additives in some products. Basically, a huge percentage of the products you buy for everyday use contain some form of paraben, so it can be difficult to find products that do not use them.

Now, before anyone says anything, I know that there have been studies on both sides of the argument…parabens are bad and parabens are ok. But since there have been studies that say that it is not healthy, we have chosen to take the precautionary route and not use products containing them. Whether or not they are as bad as some say they are, I would rather err on the side of safety. Now, on to what parabens could be doing to your body.

For starters, Parabens can mimic the hormone estrogen, which is known to play a role in the development of breast cancers. Do you really want to take the chance that they might do so? I know my wife doesn’t. In the July 2002 issue of the Archives of Toxicology , Dr. S. Oishi of the Department of Toxicology, Tokyo Metropolitan Research Laboratory of Public Health reported that exposure of newborn male mammals to butylparaben “adversely affects the secretion of testosterone and the function of the male reproductive system.” If that is not enough to avoid a product that can easily be avoided, I don’t know what is! There are a lot of other reports available all over the internet, but most of them are all related to reproductive health in some way or another. Not really something to mess with, huh?The jury is still out on how and why parabens might affect development and growth of both babies and adults. But we have decided to get rid of any products that have it and replace them with products that don’t. There is no harm being careful with this kind of stuff…remember, things that were deemed safe in the past then came back to bite us all when we were told that they actually caused all sorts of diseases. And when they are safe alternatives available, I would rather not take the chance that my children develop strange reproductive problems or that my wife gets breast cancer from using a product that was

A Few Great Paraben Free Products For You To Check Out.

We got a lot of emails asking for good paraben-free products that people can buy for themselves. After looking in our bathroom and online for a little bit, here are some great products that are both paraben-free and not too hard on the wallet:

First and foremost, the POMEGA5 line at http://www.pomega5.com/ is the best line out there and it is made of Omega 5 oil, extracted from the seeds of pomegranates.

Avalon Organics Nourishing Conditioner - but can be found in a ton of places, sometimes a little cheaper.

Burts Bees Milk And Honey Body Lotion - but I know my wife gets it for cheaper. Oh, and thanks to the people who commented and emailed when I asked about natural cosmetics, my wife had no idea that Burts Bees had them!

Method Bloq Soap - We normally buy natural glycerin soap, but when a Method product comes out I like to try it. So we tried this soap and it works pretty well and lasts a long time in the shower.

Tom’s of Maine Deodorant - You can read about it at their site.

We do have a ton of other natural paraben-free items in our home like Pomega5, so if there is a product you are looking for, let me know and I might be able to recommend something for you!

Myths and facts about ethanol and its production does not affect Omega 5 oil company

We, in India, love Omega 5 skin care
We adore paraben free products

Myths and facts about ethanol and its production.
Myth:

It takes more energy to produce ethanol than it contributes.
Fact:

Ethanol facilities are extremely energy efficient. A recent study by the Argonne National Lab (http://www.anl.gov/) found that for every 100 BTUs BTUs (British Thermal Units) of energy used to create a gallon of ethanol, 135 BTUs of energy in ethanol are produced. With the Ethanex Energy fractionation manufacturing process, by leveraging non-traditional sources of energy, the Ethanex ethanol plants energy costs will be 75% less than a traditional dry mill facility that employs natural gas.

Myth:

Ethanol production wastes corn than can be used to feed the hungry.
Fact:
The majority of corn grown in the U.S. is used for livestock feed or for export. Only about 9% of the U.S. corn crop is used for human consumption in products that include cereals, sweeteners, etc. About 20% of all corn grown in the U.S. was expected to go towards ethanol production in 2006. Using Ethanex's fractionation technology to separate the corn into parts that can be used for ethanol production and food products allow animal feed and food-grade products to be manufactured efficiently and without waste. Protein, fat, fiber and minerals are returned to the food chain in the form of a higher protein dry distillers grain (DDGs), a valuable feed for livestock, including cattle, poultry and swine.

Myth:
Ethanol is driving up the price of gasoline.
Fact:
Not only does ethanol add to the overall supply of fuel for America's motorists, a tax credit paid to the petroleum companies for blending ethanol is typically passed on to consumers, both of which help keep pump prices more competitive. According to the Consumer Federation of America, consumers who purchase gasoline blended with 10% ethanol could be saving as much as 8 cents per gallon compared to straight gasoline.

Myth:
Ethanol adds to air pollution.
Fact:
Because ethanol-blended gasoline is cleaner than conventional gasoline, it emits less hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide and hydrogen. Ethanol reduces carbon monoxide emissions by as much as 25% - and less carbon monoxide helps reduce ozone formation and greenhouse gas levels.
Myth:
Cosmetics companies can get reprive by claiming that they are selling green products
Fact:
"Green" products can not use parabens and still be natural, green and sustainable, the only company which selles producs with a shelf life of over 24 months with no parabens meeting LOHAS standards is POMEGA5.
Consumers know better, they read labels.

Fact: sex is better than Omega 5 oil supplements -- but POMEGA5 skin care will help you look a lot younger

With today’s companionship constantly frowning upon aging and advertisements constantly urging consumers to buy products to tighten, firm, and rejuvenate their skin, our society has placed a very high value on youthful appearances. No one wants to look old, so a natural product to help this is very important. However, just because consumers want to use natural products doesn’t necessarily mean they will, as many wonder if natural products will actually work. Despite some concealment from the consumer, the favor of all natural anti-aging products is on the rise. Although many products can help minimize signs of aging, companies are spasmodic efforting to recommend the start of preventative skin care regimens in a woman’s late teens.

The key to preventing aging is care skin clear, pores unclogged, and you skin moisturized in your twenties so that by the time you reach your thirties, aging is not quite as evident. By age thirty, collagen levels start to reduce, and skin starts to lose its elasticity. It is important to continue a skin care routine and work in some anti-aging products. By age forty and beyond, it’s extremely important to continue the regimen you have form in your thirties while adding an anti-aging serum.

On top of a regular skin care routine, it is essential for women to use products that live in continence some level of SPF, which is very important for preventing fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots. Along with SPF, antioxidants are critical in anti aging products, preventing free radical impair and also minimizing facial redness by constricting protecting fine capillaries.
Good antioxidant and anti-aging ingredients include omega 5 oil products made of pomegranate seeds such as http://www.pomega5.com/, blueberries, blooming tea, ginkgo biloba, cucumber, aloe, lavender, and cranberry seed oil. Our favorite is the Omega 5 oil.

Moisturizing the skin is also an anti-aging indispensable, helping the derma provide nourishment and adding cushion to support the skin. A good moisturizer like the Healing Cream by Pomega5 will also help to fight dry skin and wrinkles. Some moisturizing formulas used in Japan have an ability to provide omega essential fatty acids and help to slow the composition of wrinkles. Jojoba, aloe, and avocado oils are also extremely hydrating and effective in the conversion and face of fine lines and wrinkles.

Since aging can cause the skin to be discolored, there are many products that can help to minimize the appearance of age spots and help to brighten and even out skin tone. A skin tone balancer, using natural skin lighteners such as kojic acid, lemon cite, and bilberry extract, can stop the process of melanin production and also reduce existing age spots. Sugar cane extract and sugar maple extract act as natural exfoliates, which help to brighten the skin by acquisition rid of dead skin cells. Night creams containing macadamia nut oil, mulberry bark, and licorice extracts help to firm and illumine the skin and also lighten age spots.

Although natural products are definitely better for consumers’ skin, they frequently have short shelf lives. In order to fight this, many companies create smaller batches with shorter shelf lives, to make sure that customers will use the unmixed returns face to face with it expires. For retailers to sell anti-aging products and compete with mainstream lines, marketers stress that is needed to make consumers aware of how great natural skin care is.
However, Pomega 5 now has paraben free skin care which can last over 24 months, a total breakthrough for the industry. This is real green technology in cosmetics, a perfect fit for the LOHAS market.

Pomegranates are key to super skin

Get Super Skin With This Superfood

Pomegranates are known for their healthy nutritional benefits. They can help prevent cancer, heart disease, and a host of other diseases.

It turns out pomegranate can create miracles for your skin's appearance and its health. You can thank the powerful antioxidants including tannins, anthocyanins, punicalagin, and ellagic acid.

Every minute of the day your skin is oxidizing just like what happens when you cut an apple and leave it out in the air. You can prevent oxidative stress that causes wrinkling, aging, thinning, and skin cancer. For beautiful skin that makes you look younger than the rest of the women and men in your age group, look for pomegranate lotions, balms, and body butters.

Studies prove that pomegranate will help you slow skin aging. In the February 2006 Journal of Ethnopharmacology, a University of Michigan study proved that pomegranate seed oil stimulates the growth of keratinocytes. This is important if you are interested in looking years younger because keratinocytes promote skin regeneration and slow down thinning.

Now you don't have to worry about the sun chewing up the collagen and elastin of your skin. In another 2006 study in the March issue of Photochemistry and Photobiology, it was revealed that pomegranate fruit extract can prevent damage from UVA radiation.

Pomegranates also provide a retinoid-like effect but without the irritation.

A not so bold new year's resolution - go for Omega 5 oil skincare products

An artist's rendition of changes brought about by an efficacious skin care line
This could be you...

New year, new skin care

With the New Year just upon us it is time to reconsider our skincare routine as we get – dare I say it – a year older.

Many of us struggle to understand our skin’s needs and keep up with them. A product we have used religiously may not be what our skin needs now.

I would recommend that every woman should visit her beauty adviser every six months to assess their skin’s needs as these change from season to season and sometimes month to month depending on the environment and our personal lifestyles.

An area many women struggle with is identifying those first signs of ageing – a time when it is vital to change the products we are using to adapt to these changes.

How can we detect changes in our skin and delay those first lines? I would suggest getting to know your skin intimately – it’s texture appearance and so on. This is so easy, it just involves us paying attention to our reflection in the mirror each day. As this becomes a habit it is easy then to notice subtle changes which can be the prelude to seeing those textural and radiance changes.
The clever Research and Development bods at Estee Lauder headed has discovered that uneven skin tone alone can add an average of up to 10 to 15 years to a woman’s perceived age, even in the absence of visible lines and wrinkles. In other words, when photos of women’s faces were airbrushed to remove certain imperfections, the faces with more even skin tone were overwhelmingly judged to be younger by participants. So we should all make radiance and skin tone a priority to make ourselves look younger.

A regular visit to a beauty adviser can inform us of the ingredients we should be looking out for – things like peptides, collagens, omega 5 oil or even humble vitamin C.

Dr Maes says, “For years we’ve seen the benefits of vitamin C in skincare, but mainly in terms of its protective role against environmental assaults.

“What we’ve come to learn however is that vitamin C is also extremely important for helping skin maintain a healthy and youthful look, naturally build collagen stores and contribute to a more even skin tone appearance.”

It’s good to know that with help from science we can improve the texture and tone of our skin even as we get older.

The best advice I can give is to get to know your skin and watch for subtle changes and make visiting a beauty adviser a top priority for 2008. They can help assess what treatment products are right for you.
