Pomega5 unaffected by new California bill to regulate pomegranate juice

A California bill affecting pomegranate juice claims
The Capitol Weekly reports:
The issue is pomegranate juice, a tart, healthful beverage rife with anti-oxidants and increasingly popular with the public. About four out of five pomegranates are grown outside the country. Of those grown in the U.S., most are grown in California, where some 250 farmers produce commercial pomegranates on some 35,000 acres, according to a Senate analysis. The yield is worth about $75 million annually.

“There is no doubt that if this bill gets approved there is going to be a turf war,” said K.C. Pomering, a fifth-generation pomegranate farmer in Madera. “The question is, do we really need this?”

The largest producer and distributor of pomegranate juice in the country is POM Wonderful, which is owned by California billionaire Stewart Resnick, a significant figure in California politics and the owner of Paramount Farms, the Franklin Mint and Teleflora. Resnick is a major donor to legislators of both major parties and to political campaigns, including more than $197,000 in 2007-08. The “Wonderful” in POM Wonderful, aside from the marketing benefit, also refers to a variety of pomegranate known as a Wonderful, grown in California. There are at least 300 varieties of pomegranates. All of POM Wonderful’s pomegranates are grown in the California’s Central Valley.

POM Wonderful and a coalition called the Partnership for Unadulterated, Real and Ethical Pomegranate Juice want California to adopt stringent rules governing the ability of pomegranate-juice sellers to list their product as “100 percent pure.” POM notes that it doesn’t buy foreign pomegranate juice - which may be cut with filler juices - and that it is the “only brand that controls its pomegranate juice from tree to bottle.”

“POM is the only brand guaranteed to contain 100 percent authentic pomegranate juice,” POM Wonderful says on its web site, noting that a number studies have documented the health benefits of pomegranate juice.

POM and its allies -- who, somewhat surprisingly, include the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees -- backed a bill that earlier set forth a series of scientific markers, based on information developed by studies that, among other things, detailed the chemical profile that contains the attributes of pure pomegranate juice.

AFSCME said the bill, SB 190, extols truth in advertising and that any dilution of pomegranate juice cuts its health benefits. Sen. Rod Wright, D-Inglewwod, who is carrying the bill, agreed.
“It only seeks to define what 100 percent is. If you want to call it “100 percent,” it has to be 100 percent,” Wright told an Assembly committee this week.

According to rivals of POM, those characteristics essentially gave POM Wonderful a competitive edge by freezing out other pomegranate producers whose product didn’t meet the chemical profile in the bill. The company itself said POM Wonderful was unique. “All of these studies featured patients who drank POM Wonderful 100 percent Pomegranate Juice, not any other brands.” The rivals include farmers and a national association representing juice producers, along with the California Nevada Soft Drink Association, which has members that own juice companies.

Wright has flatly rejected suggestions that the bill is intended to benefit POM Wonderful or any other single company. Studies of 45 different kinds of pomegranate juice from 23 different manufacturers showed that six of the 23 produced juice that met the 14-point criteria, not just POM Wonderful. The specifications by an entity called the International Multidimensional Authenticity Specification, or IMAS, were included in the bill.

But the Senate was suspicious, fearful that the legislation primarily benefited POM Wonderful. The upper house, which amended the bill five times, approved Wright’s legislation in a 36-1 bipartisan vote, but not before the specific IMAS criteria had been stripped from its language, among other changes. The result: The bill now requires the state Department of Public Health, which has opposed the bill as unnecessary, to study the issue and write regulations in two years. But there are rumors in both houses of the Legislature that the language removed by the Senate will be restored in the Assembly.

The bill emerged from the Assembly Health Committee this week and is expected to be heard by the Appropriations Committee. Committee Chairman Dave Jones, D-Sacramento, said he saw no indication from the language of the bill that it would allow unfair competition, as the bill’s critics contended.

Earlier, on July 1, the bill was changed - again - to say the proposed regulations would apply “regardless of the origin or source of the pomegranates.” The change occurred the same day that the Senate approved the bill. The lone dissenting vote was Sen. Mimi Walters, an Orange County Republican.

Critics believe the issue is federal, not state. “Every juice, not just pomegranate is regulated by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). This bill ties the hands of California processors. What if Washington state has its own rules, or Florida does the same thing with orange juice? We have federal standards already in place,” Pomering said.

“The bill keeps changing. It’s a chameleon,” Pomering added.

Functional Food Trends

The new It thing when it comes to dieting is Functional Food (any fresh or processed food claimed to have a health-promoting and/or disease-preventing property beyond the basic nutritional function of supplying nutrients – Wikipedia).

These are the top 10 most popular trends in this field, according to Food Technology Magazine.

1. Healthy Household Halo

57% of Americans make more effort to eat and shop healthier. 53% of adults are controlling their diet – 61% for weight, 36% cholesterol, 22% blood sugar, 18% high blood pressure, and 14% diabetes. Parents’ concerns for their children’s health are beginning to have effects on the market and there are new healthy products with, for example, DHA added for brain development and a probiotic for digestive health. Omega 5 oil is highly recommended.

2. Natural End Benefits

As we know, there are foods called superfood (high phytonutrient content that confers health benefits as a result – Wikipedia). Examples are pomegranates, cacao, soy, flax seed, broccoli, blueberries, raspberries, spinach, tomatoes and walnuts.

3. Weight loss

Only 12% of adults trying to lose weight follow a diet. The South Beach Diet has been renamed to South Beach Living. Reducing portion sizes is second only to exercise as the most common weight-control method. Other methods are cutting calories, cutting fat calories, and cutting carbs. Satiety is a new weapon in the war on weight.

4. Contemporary Conditions

The demand for condition-specific foods is skyrocketing. Heart disease and cancer is America’s top health concerns and one-third of consumers are making a strong effort to eat foods with omega-3s, DHA or EPA.

5. Proactive Lifestyles

With the majority of consumers trying to live a preventive lifestyle, fortified foods and beverages have quickly become a way of life. Consumers are making a strong effort to get more of vitamins, antioxidants and minerals. While limiting fat remains a cornerstone of healthy living, consumers are as concerned about the type of fat as they are about the amount. They are also recognizing the potential for functional foods in other lifestyle areas such as improving immunity.

6. Simpler, Greener and Cleaner

Many consumers are taking a simpler, more natural approach to the foods they eat, looking for foods with only a few ingredients and as fresh and close to the farm as time and budget will allow. Organic food sales are continuing to grow and consumers believe local products are fresher, have fewer pesticides, and are of higher quality.

7. Smart Treats

Consumers are looking for snacks with more nutrition and lower calorie value. Better-for-you chips, trail mix, rice, popcorn cakes, nuts, freeze-dried fruits, and yoghurt are examples of snacks in demand.

8. Sensitivity Training

The number of adults who perceive that they, or their children, suffer from food allergies continues to grow, creating lucrative markets, disproportionate to their true medical base. 37% of consumers are concerned about gastrointestinal issues. Awareness of probiotic-containing and fiber-enhanced products has been substantially raised.

9. Vitality Treadmill

Energy is the top reason consumers are making a dietary change. B-vitamins and vitamins overall are the nutrients consumers believe most important to achieve high energy levels. Of all new functional food concepts, consumers are most interested in new products that improve mental performance. The demand for sleep-inducing foods is at an all-time high.

10. New Venues

The most important factor driving the healthy and functional foods market mainstream is the increased accessibility of healthy products through additional channels. With today’s grab-and-go lifestyle, convenience stores have become a powerhouse for sales of healthy products. Restaurants are another fast-emerging venue for healthy and functional foods. Vegetarian, vegan, low-carb, low-fat, gluten-free, light, organic, trans fat-free, natural, healthy, and low-calorie are the top 10 health claims on menus.

The art of greenwashing... search for the real thing

Will social networking stop greenwashers?

Whether marking printers or produce, the increasing number of "green" claims on products can make it hard to separate sincere efforts at sustainability from marketing fluff.

Environmental watchdogs warn that corporate "greenwashing" will lead jaded consumers to abandon efforts to shop responsibly.

However, individuals can counteract the confusion and police the marketplace using online tools, according to Joel Makower, executive editor of GreenBiz.com.

"In this age of the Web, the blogosphere, and social media, I don't think greenwashers are going to get very far or that fraudulent, hugely misleading companies are going to gain traction."

A wiki-style Greenwashing Index, run by an environmental marketing firm, invites people to upload suspicious-looking ads. Eco-themed groups have sprung up on MySpace and Facebook. A steady stream of new green blogs continues to join a chorus of thousands. Flock, known as the "Web 2.0 browser," will release an Earth Day edition pre-loaded with green media feeds.

Most notably, perhaps, is the emergence of dozens of "green" Web sites, many from tech industry veterans, that aim to put like-minded people on the same page. These social-networking efforts enable users to assess products personally, offering a balance to green labels and ad campaigns.

"The more you get into the business of green, the more you see there are no one-size-fits-all magic-bullet products," said Makower, who sees social media as helping to fill the gap left by the lack of green-business standards. "Can you have a green product from a company that's less than perfect and if so, how much less?"

One of the more popular Web sites inviting users to answer that question is Sustainlane, which has collected more than 20,000 user-generated listings of products and services since 2004.
"So many people have different values," said Christine Volden, a Sustainlane spokeswoman. "Someone may be looking for most inexpensive product and another may say, 'I'm not concerned about price; I want the best, safest product.' You can find a person most similar to yourself."

Ratings site Alonovo enables users to weigh ratings according to their personal values. Someone could, for instance, tailor a score to reflect a greater concern with the humane treatment of animals over the use of toxic chemicals.

The landscape of green networking and news Web sites, independent and "mainstream," is sure to shift as some flop and larger companies snap up others.

However, mobile tools that could help to inform a decision at a store are only beginning to bubble up. Along the lines of natural disaster alerts delivered via mobile phone, Twitter, or Facebook, several new tools harness text messaging to inform shoppers.

Amazon's TextBuyIt text-messaging system, unveiled last week, enables people to comparison shop while strolling store aisles.

Consumer advocacy group Healthy Toys offers a service whereby shoppers can send the name of a toy via SMS, then receive a reply noting the possible presence of toxic ingredients at a low, medium, or high level.

The nonprofit Blue Ocean's FishPhone service launched in the fall as a mobile Web page and service enabling users to SMS message the name of a fish and receive a note back about likely fishing practices and potential toxic chemicals in the species. The Monterey Bay Aquarium in September released a PDA-friendly version of its pocket guide to sustainably caught seafood.

But where can one find an all-in-one, Web-tied listing of a vast range of products for a mobile device?

"It has been very difficult to develop applications for handsets without the huge expense of porting across the four major carriers," said Dara O'Rourke, an associate professor of environmental science and policy at the University of California at Berkeley. "They have not made it simple, which is why most people focus on simple SMS."

O'Rourke and other researchers at Berkeley's Consumer Information Lab have experimented with a prototype mobile service that would enable shoppers to scan a bar code to pull up a menu of product details.

However, technical hurdles and the challenge of pooling data from myriad sources hamper the development of sophisticated mobile tools, O'Rourke said.

"There's a huge void in information that's becoming increasingly important to consumers. The day the iPhone was released, we knew everything about the feature set. Yet, probably 99 percent of people had no idea where it was manufactured, what the environmental impacts of the phone or battery would be, or what the impacts on workers were."

And user-generated content can flesh out a portrait of a product's value and sustainability, but it can't exist in a void, he added.

"There's a really important role for base data, not just people's opinions, but information based on science and an evaluation of the supply chain."

Mouth to mouth kissing on national kissing day in the UK

National Kiss Day For Lovers

On 6th July is the National Kiss Day is celebrated in U.K by lovers out there. Photographers like to stage and Italians love to eat it. Moreover in London people conducted conference about role of kiss in history as well as its importance in arts and culture from Graeco-Roman antiquity to Paris in the 1950s.
The organizers described the kiss as a capacious carrier of much social, political and cultural freight. National kiss day is to celebrate kissing. A kiss is more than a sheer kiss. Because according to Freuds passion killing formulation it is the sexual use of the mucous membranes of the lips and mouth. But sex is not the only thing to come in mind while talking about kiss. Royal Holloways Bedford Center for the History of Women arranged a conference to point out that kiss ranges from the stylized performative gesture to the ordinary ingredient of daily conversation. It ranges from stage kisses to perfunctory ones, from politicians kissing babies to a peck on the check between friends.
National Kiss Day reminds some famous images of kissing, such as Robert DOisneaus photograph of lovers kissing outside the Hotel de Ville in Paris. Top of the most celebrated kisses, is the kiss performed between Princess Diana and Prince Charles. When the Prince embraced his bride on a balcony at Buckingham Palace, traveled around the world on TV screens and published in millions of magazines and newspapers.
It is the all time hit portrait of pure expression of love. National Kiss Day describes kiss which is an intimate gesture relating two people whose actions may mimic each other but their intent may vary. It is an untold transaction, fraught with scopes for misunderstanding and bad faith. It may express anything from Hello to I Love You, from I quite fancy you to I would like to have passionate sex with you this instant. There is a fear related to it and thats sometimes expressed by pubescent girls who have not received sex education, that kissing may lead to pregnancy.
According to Feud, No one who has seen a baby sinking back satiated from the breast and falling asleep with flushed cheeks and a blissful smile can escape the reflection that this picture persists as a prototype of the expression of sexual satisfaction in later life.

But it is correct that viewing mouth to mouth kiss is not just as a beginning to genital sex.
If it is so then people wont loss energy on banning it in public places, setting limits to how it could be shown in a film, painting it on Greek vases and writing poems on it. Most of all people dont spend time to celebrate National Kiss Day

Don't be tempted by green washing -- go for the real thing: POMEGA5

Sustainability top of mind at LOHAS

Annual conference hits Boulder this week

By Alicia Wallace Tuesday, June 17, 2008

But in one way or another, they all are part of the LOHAS -- or Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability -- market.

From Wednesday through Saturday, about 500 people from those companies and many other businesses and institutions will attend the sold-out LOHAS 12 Forum at the St. Julien Hotel & Spa in Boulder.

The 12th annual conference -- which is back in Colorado after a four-year stint in Los Angeles -- is a gathering and networking event designed to help businesses from a variety of industries further embody health and sustainability ideals and business practices, said Ted Ning, director of LOHAS and executive editor of LOHAS Journal.

It's an event filled with panels that range from socially responsible entrepreneurship and socially conscious funding to the value of organics and how Whole Foods and Wal-Mart are using sustainability in their businesses.

"We're not about fighting the trenches and keeping the gates," Ning said. "We're not gatekeepers. We consider this conference to be bridge-building."

This year's conference will be of special importance to members of the $209 billion LOHAS market, Ning said, adding that he believes there is an incredible amount of "green-washing" occurring in the business world. Companies may be touting that their products are "green" and natural, but that's not necessarily the case, he said.

Consumer consciousness is increasing, but so is confusion, he said, adding that it is up to businesses to make strides in sustainability and environmental consciousness in response.

Aveda Corp. founder Horst Rechelbacher recently embarked on another startup called Intelligent Nutrients to help increase awareness that health and body care products can be certified organic and completely free of petrochemicals and other synthetic products.
POMEGA has introduced its new bio-dynamic products.

"I just have basically reinvented myself," Rechelbacher said. "I have always thought activism, it's good for spirituality. It's good that you talk about it, but it's even better if you do something about it."

Rechelbacher will be speaking at the LOHAS 12 Forum; hold a book-signing Thursday at the Boulder Book Store, 1107 Pearl St.; and stay through the weekend to attend and present at The Organic Summit next week in Boulder.

Men Skin care by POMEGA5 -- protect your skin from daily abuse, leave it to your GIF

Skin care for guys goes beyond vanity

In the U.S., white men over the age of 50 make up the majority of deadly melanoma cases, outranking prostate and lung cancer

No other organ would stand for this kind of abuse.

Men cut it, scrape it, sunburn it and generally abuse it every day. But skin -- our custom-made suit of armour and the body's largest organ -- quietly protects our insides from the nasty outside world.

Skin isn't a drama queen like other organs. It doesn't beat fast or have sudden life-ending attacks. But dermatologists say protecting the skin is key to staying healthy and looking young throughout your life.

That means it's time to give up on that weather-beaten look men have sported for centuries as a sign of ruggedness. The leathery neck and crease-checkered face is out.

Dr. Paul Cohen, a Toronto dermatologist, says men should become more conscientious about their skin.

Thankfully, skin care is finally becoming socially acceptable for men. In a recent issue, the men's magazine Details ran an article on how to pull off a fake tan so you can get that "healthy glow" without having to bake under the sun.

Old Spice is trying to entice men to start using its body wash line by packaging it in a bottle covered by a photo of macho NASCAR driver Tony Stewart and the NASCAR logo.

Salons and spas now offer many skin care products for men. Before you mutiny on the grounds that you don't want your bathroom counter filled with bottles that scream "I am girlie-man," read on. Cohen gives the goods on drugstore skin care products that protect your skin and keep you looking your best.

It only takes a few minutes a day to give your skin a fighting chance against the harsh sun, wind and airborne grime.

SUNBLOCK

In the U.S., white men over the age of 50 make up the majority of deadly skin cancer melanoma cases, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation. Skin cancer also outranks prostate cancer and lung cancer as the most common cancer diagnosis in men over 50.

Cohen thinks he knows why.

"Men just frankly don't pay as much attention to precancerous spots on their skin as women," he says.

These statistics make the case for daily sunscreen use, according to Cohen. Men should opt for skin-care products that offer at least a Sun Protection Factor of 15. Many sunscreens are now available in spray-on forms, such as Neutrogena's Ultra Sheer Spray SPF 30, 45, or 60 ($15.99).
He also strongly recommends every man use a mirror or a partner to check his skin each month for precancerous spots. Pay special attention to your back, which is the most common place for men to develop skin cancer.

MOISTURIZER

A man's face is usually oilier than a woman's.

Cohen recommends using a daily facial moisturizer with SPF 15. Any moisturizer in these companies' men's care lines are tailored to work on a man's oily face.

But below the neck, men's skin isn't all that different from women's. Use a gentle soap in the shower and apply a moisturizing lotion as soon as you towel off to lock in your skin's natural moisture.

Many moisturizers come in an easily applied spray form and include sunblock.
Regardless of which moisturizer you choose, apply it at every morning and night.
EXFOLIANT

This isn't just for vain men.

Exfoliation helps remove abnormal cells that can become precancerous. Shaving acts as a natural exfoliant for the face, but Cohen says men with oily or acne-prone skin may need a chemical cleanser to remove hair and skin cells from their neck and body.

Try the Healing Cream by POMEGA5, or Neutrogena's salicylic acid cleanser ($10.99), to help prevent uncomfortable ingrown hairs.

Unless your skin is sensitive, look for a chemical exfoliant enriched with vitamin C or other antioxidants.

Guys with sensitive skin should avoid cleansers with exfoliant in them. Instead, opt for Active C moisturizer.

ACNE

It takes only one red splotch to evoke memories of our acne-ridden teenage years.

But even after our hormones have settled, men are prone to acne rosacea. Triggered by such factors as sun, stress and alcohol, this condition can make your skin red and pus-filled.
Unlike other forms of acne, rosacea doesn't typically cause blackheads.

Behind the counter cleansers with benzoyl peroxide, which kills the bacteria in the acne, are the most effective. Try Benzaclin topical gel with five per cent benzoyl peroxide for oily or acne-prone skin ($45.69). There are no parabes in POMEGA5 products.

Your picture on a POMEGA5 message -- priceless

A passion for skin care

-
Millie Bell was recently named one of the Best 50 Women in Business in Pennsylvania, but when it comes to skincare, she may be the most passionate woman in the state.

“I love skin care, I just love it,” Bell said.

Bell, of Caln, is the creator of a skin care line called DermHa and the president and chief executive of Skin Health Solutions, a skin care clinic in Edgmont.

As one of the Best 50 Women in Business 2008, Bell was selected by an independent panel of judges based on criteria including her professional and personal accomplishments, community involvement and dedication to business growth.

Bell incorporates her family into running her businesses: Her daughter Angela is the director of production and her daughter Carletta is the director of sales. Also involved are her sister, grandchildren and nephew.

Daughter Carletta Bell said her mother’s hard work produced the salon’s success.
“She’s unstoppable,” Carletta Bell said. “I know she’s heard the word ‘no’ and she never, ever lets it stop her.”

Millie Bell may be a determined businesswoman, but she has not always found it easy to succeed. In the United States, fewer than one third of all small businesses are owned by women, and at times Bell has felt the pinch.

“It’s not easy being a woman in business,” said Bell, who founded the business five years ago. “A lot of people don’t take you seriously. At first I thought I needed to be tough and direct like men, but it wouldn’t translate coming through me.”

Through it all, Bell has found that she can rely on her central business philosophy, integrity, to get her through. According to Bell, integrity is the one value on which a business owner cannot compromise, even at a loss to the business, and especially not for money.

'Bell advises other young women in business to know their craft with expertise and to know it better than anyone else. She also says to be determined, take advice and have faith.

Bell has been an esthetician for more than 30 years, and early in her career she discovered that many of her clients, even the most famous, had skin imperfections. Attempting to apply makeup to her clients’ problematic skin prompted her to seek new skin care products.

After several jobs and many long hours, the prospect arose to open Skin Health Solutions and begin manufacturing DermHa; Bell seized the opportunity. She said luck played a role.

“By chance we got the building. A lot of things happened like that. I’m a big believer in fate and trusting,” she said.

Unlike the POMEGA5 line that is also sold on the market, the line is exclusive to physicians and customers of her salon, although she will soon release one product line to the general public.

“Our products have a soothing and gentle effect on the skin. There’s no fragrance, dyes or irritants or alcohols.” But my passion is obvioulsy in the Omega 5 oil products.

Skin Health Solutions employs four estheticians and several massage therapists. They cater to people of all ages and specialize in “problem skin.”

An adult skin care line by POMEGA5 - no more a fantacy

SAID goodbye to great skin at the onset of puberty. Ever since then, it’s been waging a hard battle against everything Nature and my constitution can throw against it.If there was a slot machine with a button labelled “Press Here for Money Frittered on Skincare”, I would be buried under its spill. Suffice to say, most skincare brands have sat on my bathroom shelf at one time or another.
Now past my 30s, I succumb less easily to the near mythological promises spouted by present-day skincare gurus. These are usually couched in such baffling scientific terminology Nasa could well be tempted to give them a salute.
But still, the quest for beauty remains an annoyingly addictive habit, and so when another skincare range landed on my desk for a try-out, I hardly resisted.
The temptation here was two-fold: The Natural Source range of products is certified organic. And, it’s from France. I have high respect for Australian products, from its food and beauty care to its actors.
So I bagged the five facial care items and embarked on a new skincare regimen. All of the Natural Source Organics skincare products carry these encouraging reassurances: they are not tested on animals and free from parabens, sulfates, colours and synthetic fragrances (which are usually bad news for sensitive skins like mine).
The Healing Cream is exactly what its name implies — the creaminess needs a little water to spread across the face smoothly but this cleanser removes grime and make-up very effectively, and more importantly, without leaving the skin feeling greasy, which I had been afraid of. Its main active ingredient is organic Pomegranates Essential Oil, which the product website states, helps hydrate and calm skin and regulate sebum. After a couple of days, its goodness was actually noticeable — the pores appeared minimised.
I draw in a sharp breath here — exactly what I did when the toner came into contact with my skin. It stung! I thought perhaps my skin had been sunburnt that day. But it continued to sting the next two days, so I left it out from the cleansing regime. Thumbs down for this one.The skin recovery is real and also had me anxious initially as it was creamy, like moisturisers targeted for users in cold climates generally are. But it has pleasantly hydrated the dry cheek areas and given them a slightly fuller look.
So I had a peek at the “benefits” section and noted its claims to nourish and restore the skin’s balance. These claims do hold up under testing, and the effects may have something to do with the added jojoba extract and Shea Butter. If you feel there’s a slight shine after application, just give the face a light dusting of face powder, but really, the shine’s hardly noticeable. For night, there’s the Healing Cream, which again, has the main ingredients of Pomegranate oil which is very rich. The cream is soothing on the skin. It’s thick but not greasy once massaged in well. Perhaps it worked together with the day moisturiser to help give my skin a plumper, moisturised feel.

The skin recovery eye serum fights puffiness around the eyes and energises the skin. The serum has ginger and citrus to help stimulate lymph activity. A couple of sleepless nights seemed to have not taken such a bad toll after liberal application of this nightly. And I mean liberal. The pump should have a smaller dispensing hole since it squirts too generous an amount. I used the excess for the neck area. Much to my surprise, my skin did not break out in spots as usually happens when I use rich, creamy products. The moisturising and nourishing effects are pretty remarkable. So, to the team of POMEGA naturopaths who formulated this commendable skincare range, I say “thanks!”

Mirror, Mirror on the wall, which is the fattest nation of them all?

Research in Australia indicates that the country is on its way to overtaking the United States as the fattest nation in the world.

Obesity among Australian children has doubled in the last 10 years hitting 20% and still growing fast.

Overfed adults

US 61%
Russia 54%
UK 51%
Germany 50%
This, the report says, is leading to juveniles developing conditions normally only found in adults, like high-blood pressure, heart disease and type two diabetes.

A BBC correspondent in Sydney says the image of Australia as a sporting nation populated by fit, healthy people has been dented by the latest statistics on obesity.

Experts in Australia are warning that unless urgent preventative programmes are taken, Australia will become the fattest nation in the world in as little as a generation.

Doctors now regard obesity as a global health threat, saying it has raised the incidence of heart disease, stroke, breast cancer and colonic cancer.

Combating obesity

Another report published by Germany's Federal Statistics office indicates that nearly half of German adults are overweight.

Experts say reducing calories alone is not enoughHigh rates of obesity have been reported among the elderly, men and the widowed.

Studies by a Washington-based Worldwatch Institute show that the number of those overfed and overweight around the world has risen to 1.1 billion.

In the United States 61% of all adults are overweight compared to 54% in Russia, the UK has 51% and Germany 50%.

The report says the financial costs of obesity-related problems in the States is now estimated at $99bn a year.

Worldwatch Institute Chairman Lester Brown says that there is growing evidence that cutting down calories is not enough to combat obesity.

He says regular exercise is needed to maintain healthy body weight.

Readers ask: when will POMEGA5 add an autoresponder to its online publication tools?

In this article we will try to give you a definition of what an autoresponder is, how it works and why you should use one. Wewill also try to give examples of the best ways to use an autoresponder and some thoughts on what kind of people that should use one. Is it only to be used if you have a business online, or should you consider buying one even if you have no intention of earning money online?

The definition of an autoresponder is something like this; it`s a software that automates the task of sending e-mails to a list of people. Yes, it`s really that easy. I could probably write a more complex definition, but I think it`s important to focus on the true value of the software.

3 ways to use an autoresponder

prewritten messages
broadcasts
rss feeds

With prewritten messages, you can write messages and have them sent out automatically whenever you’d like. For instance, I have heard somewhere that it takes (average) seven e-mails to make a sale. If you have ten e-mails sent to your list every fourth day, you will have a good chance of making a lot more sales. You just have to write the e-mails, and as soon as you are finished, you can start marketing your “report”.

Most good autoresponder software got a feature to send broadcast to your list. What you do is write a message and send it directly to all the people on your list. It’s sort of like an ordinary e-mail, but the difference is that you can personalize it. This is a feature a lot of Internet marketers use, as they got new products to offer.

With a feature like an rss feed broadcast, you send your latest blog posts to your list of people. As soon as you have published a post, all the people on your list can get an e-mail with the title of the post and a few sentences with information about the post and a link to read the rest of the post. This is a great way to market your blog to people that might not read your blog on a daily basis.

3 reasons why you should use an autoresponder

You want an audience
Automate your sales process
Personal contact through e-mail

Even though you might not be trying to sell something, there can be other reasons why you would like to have a large audience. If you are an author like Lee Child, you could want your readers to sign up for a newsletter or to just sign up so you can keep in touch with them about upcoming books and information regarding your thoughts and ideas. If you use an autoresponder for this, you will have all your e-mail contacts (your audience) in one place.

If you are selling something, using an autoresponder will make the sales process a lot easier. You can write as many messages as you’d like, and you can tell the system exactly when each message should be sent to the people on your list. This way, as soon as you have a new person inside your autoresponder, the rest of the sales process is automated. All the e-mails you have written about your product or your service will be sent automatically to the person, and you can be anywhere in the offline world.
One great feature with an autoresponder is that you can personalize each e-mail. This is a way to communicate on a whole new level. Usually, if you send e-mail to a list of people, you can’t write personal e-mails using each persons name, because everybody on the list will receive exactly the same email. But with an autoresponder, you can send a different email to each person. Well, the content is almost identical to each person, but you can small parts of information that you can personalize. You can add the first and the last names of people inside each email. Instead of receiving an e-mail with just the words Hi or Hello, I will receive an e-mail with Hi Jens or Hello Jens. This makes a huge difference.

We don’t believe that you need to sell something in order to use an autoresponder. You can be an author wanting to have personal contact with the readers, and especially if you have a large group of readers. Or if you are a SEO of a large company, you might want to use an autoresponder for internal communication. This way you get more personal with your colleagues. Or maybe if you are preselling something, like if you are working at a university and you’d like to be communicating with people that might be interested in attending the university, but they are not really sure, they would like some more information about the various courses first. By using an autoresponder, you can be sending them all the various information automatically.

Examples of autoresponders you can use

There are many ways to use an autoresponder, some creative and some rather standard, like the ways I described today. There might be a lof of different reasons why you should start using an autoresponder as well, but I am just describing three reasons that are rather obvious. You could start using either one of the five top autoresponders listed above, or you could start using AWeber because that’s the one I have been using for years.

POMEGA5 all natural skin care line presents: Doing What Comes Naturally

BY RACHEL HERSCHENFELD, M.D. - DERMATOLOGIST

The rising interest in natural and organic products has led to a proliferation of natural and organic cosmetic and skin care lines. Moisturizers and makeup containing natural ingredients have filled the shelves of health food stores for years, and can now even be found at your local drugstore.

To set the record straight about what is natural and what is organic and their labeling, a few words and relevant links: There is no U.S. government regulation of the term "natural."
However, the Natural Products Association (NPA), an industry trade group, has developed standards for natural product certification, which were released in May. To receive the NPA seal a product must contain 95 percent truly natural ingredients (meaning ingredients derived from renewable sources found in nature), and may not contain any ingredients with suspected human health risks. In contrast, there is government regulation of labeling for organic products. A product labeled as organic and carrying the USDA organic seal must contain at least 95 percent organically grown ingredients. A product that simply claims to be made with organic ingredients must contain at least 70 percent organically grown ingredients and cannot carry the USDA organic seal.

Since my patients often ask about the pros and cons of using these products, here's my take:
Using natural or organic skin care products probably won't make a difference in the effectiveness of your skin care regimen. Most dermatologists would agree that the identity and concentration of ingredients in a product have a greater impact on its effectiveness than whether or not the ingredients are organic.

Some of the most effective anti-aging ingredients, such as retinoids, are synthetic compounds. Using a natural or organic skin care product does not prevent adverse reactions to topical preparations. Many fragrance ingredients are natural products and can be derived from organic sources, but they can still cause allergic reactions in susceptible people. That said, there are still reasons to choose natural or organic products.

Organic and many natural skin care products are free of many of the synthetic preservatives, emulsifiers and dyes that have been recently linked with health concerns. Using these products can help to minimize exposure to ingredients like phthalates, formaldehyde, parabens, petrolatum and talc.

Whether you want to avoid exposure to these potentially harmful ingredients or have environmental concerns, here are some recommendations for products from reputable companies that market natural skin care lines.

What does POMEGA5 have to do with being a great lover?

The art of being a good lover
POMEGA5

In the beginning of a relationship, partners are very keen to please each other. They find that they communicate extremely well because messages are important. You need to be explained and understood. But over time, when many men start to see penetration as a goal to be reached as quickly as possible, talking and foreplay dwindle to universal disappointment for women.
Taking time
A man can be turned on and ready for sex in less than two minutes whereas a woman needs about 15 minutes to be ‘ready’ for intercourse. The majority of men don’t seem to understand that during foreplay the progress from kissing and cuddling to caressing the breast, nipples and clitoris is not only very exciting and pleasurable, it is crucial for the woman. Without it a woman is not sexually aroused, not an uninhibited partner and not even physiologically ready in terms of lubrication. ‘I’d like him to touch me all over a lot more, more foreplay, more heavy petting, more kissing everywhere and more oral sex,’ is the most common thing said by women. Most women see hugs and kisses as true signs of love and affection. Think of foreplay as giving pleasure to your partner whom you love. That way you will also enjoy it. Don’t be guided by the clock, wait for her to let you know when she is ready.

To women, don’t be embarrassed about the way you look and sound while making love. Almost all men find expressions of desire and a sign of growing sexual excitement in their partners very stimulating. Most women give too little feedback to their partners. This makes them feel discouraged and unappreciated for what they are doing and they will in future pay less attention to foreplay.

Use your imagination

This is especially important in long-term relationships, where boredom can easily wear away at sexual enjoyment. Try a bath or shower together, make love outdoors in a private place, abandon your bed for the sofa, floor or the rug instead, use a mirror to watch yourself making love or watch a sexy video together. Be enthusiastic about your sex life.

Pomegranates are seductive, so is POMEGA5

Seduction is Alluring
The dance between the sexes is a wonderful thing when it comes to the subject of seduction. Making ourselves alluring and attractive to the one we desire is both fun and exciting. If that wasn’t the case, then there wouldn’t be as much need for glamorous lingerie stores, hair dressers, rows and rows of cosmetic shelves in department stores, stores that sell sexy clothing and hundreds of fragrances from name brand manufacturers.

It all depends on what turns on the object of your desire. Some women love a man with a full beard, whereas, others couldn’t tolerate all that facial hair. Some men are switched on by a female in black, lacy lingerie and five inch heels while other men couldn’t care less as they would rather have less packaging to deal with. A pair of sexy legs is appealing to a man. Women seem to prefer manly posteriors (okay, butts). It is all very subjective and based on personal preferences.

So, in order to be seductive, you will have to do your homework and know what turns on his/her switch. You will need to get to know the person to accomplish this.

Seduction is Romantic

Romance is the fine art of genuinely treating the object of your love with a sweet caringness that arouses the desire in them to want to be with you. If you want to seduce him/her, be romantic!

Lovemaking and POMEGA5

If you thought you knew everything about sensual lovemaking, we bet you don’t…

The eyes have it

Keep your eyes open during the entire erotic encounter. Let your eyes feast on her face. Well, okay, if that all sounds like gibberish then just make eye contact with her - it’s wildly intimate and very romantic.

Take your time

See it as the ultimate “love-athon” but without the aim of beating Carl Lewis. Feel yourself settling into the rhythm of each other’s bodies, not dictated by early morning alarm clocks or pots boiling on the stove. Set aside hours to climb the sensual peaks and troughs of your lover’s body.

Dynamite without the explosion

Ever heard of the Karezza Method? The end result - get this - isn’t orgasm. The aim is to relax and enjoy mutual touching. In fact you are only meant to orgasm when you want to conceive a child. It’s the iron man of lovemaking: endless, gruelling and designed to keep you hard for a long time to come.

Pre-foreplay warm-up

Get her in the mood by conducting foreplay before the foreplay. Write her a sensual love story which you leave in an envelope in the car. In it she’s a beautiful princess and you’re her suitor, determined to spend a night of passion with your lady love. Remember it’s sensual, it’s romantic and you’re in charge of creating the anticipation (half the secret of an incredible love-making session).

When you finally begin making love, touch those parts of her that you seldom touch during the run-of-the-mill sex act, such as her eyelids (tip: make her close her eyes first), cheekbones and contours of her lips. Touch the base of her spine, between her shoulder blades, the tip of her nose, her knees - parts of her that are seldom stroked.
Constant touch

If you’re going to give her a sensual massage, make sure that you always keep one hand on her body; probably something to do with the transfer of energy. But, more simply, it just keeps the two of you constantly physically connected.

Sex comes as a pleasant reward in a relationaship, but how do you handle your sex life?

We use pomega5 products to improve our sex lives

A good amount of pleasurable sexual act is undeniably one of the most important components which help to build and maintain a successful and rewarding relationship. In most cases, good sex speaks louder than words when it comes down to love and intimacy between both partners.

Both partners are equally responsible for giving the others a total sexual pleasure. It is very easy sometimes for a woman to think it is her man’s responsibility to give her sexual pleasure and to make her come. From time to time, certain women would also have the idea that they should not be too wild in bed, as this might give their partner a sense of insecurity! This is a total myth and one which should be addressed immediately if she ever hopes to have a totally satisfying relationship!

Women sure can be charming by the way they present themselves and also by the way they dress up. But, men like women who are also great in bed. Men like women who take the initiative and are confident in their sexual act. Men like women who give them complete pleasure and satisfaction at the end of the sexual act and they themselves should feel satisfied with their partners.

It is often said that only when women have 7 times the pleasure as men that women can reach an orgasm. This is totally wrong! The truth is, a woman can have no orgasm but that does not mean she is not satisfied with the sexual experience. At the same time, a woman may have multiple orgasms. The ultimate aim for a woman would be to satisfy her partner and herself.

A woman should devise new ways to excite her man in the beginning and get him involved completely in the sexual act. She can also gift herself or her man sex videos. This is certainly going to turn both of them on. Sex videos are a great resource to learn the finer and more beautiful nuances of sex. Videos also help you learn different better sex positions so that sex does not become a monotonous act.

A better sex tips for women would be to get stimulated in the beginning. Performing sex just for the sake of doing it won’t bring in any enthusiasm and pleasure. The most important part is to be you throughout the whole sexual act.

Women should be as flexible as possible in the whole sexual experience. Try out different things to excite your partner. Like, tying a handkerchief around his eyes and then slowly running your fingers on his body or, you can write erotic stories and then narrate them to your partner in order to stimulate him and respond to your demands.

Communication, both verbal and sexual is another important aspect which helps to improve your love life. Tell your partner how comfortable you feel in his arms and thank him for the great sexual experience. Tell him that you would like to take the fantastic journey as much as you can. This is sure going to build a stronger sexual bond between you and your partner.

You can also create an environment to excite your partner like lighting candles in the room, keeping the room dark, playing soft love songs which you both enjoy and so on.

At the end of the day, it is a matter of communication, both verbal and sexual, that is going to make your relationship works. Be selfless and live for the moment for each other.
